I understand your feeling totally. I so wanted my daughter to date a man who lived in the Seattle area but she didn’t. When she returned from her mission in Italy, she said, “There’s a boy in Utah that I’m feeling impressed I should date.” She moved down there with no job, an almost empty bank account and her only place to live was with some friends from BYU. She got a couple jobs right away, married the guy and now they’ve bought a house in Orem. And had a baby. My grandson. He’s in Utah, 800 miles away. And I’m left with figuring out how to connect with this little guy so he knows me as something other than a Christmas present. How is that fair.

We’ve managed to go down a couple times to be with them and they’ve come here. He loves my truck and everywhere he goes and sees a blue truck, he points at it and shouts, “Papa’s truck!” (Even when he’s in the car with his other grandparent.) We also talk to him at least once a week on Skype and sometimes, he just calls me because he wanted to talk to me.

But, it’s no fair that I can’t just drop everything and run over to their house. I wanted so much more. And as I approach the twilight of my life, the realization that there are so many things that just aren’t going to happen makes me cry just a bit. I’ve seen your photos Ms. Misti and you have love at home. When you have that, you have everything that’s important.
